Hope you all our doing fab. So as I get back to work in few days after maternity leave and as summer is settling here in the UAE, just wanted to give a few tips on clearing your makeup. By clearing I mean checking the products your using and the shelf life. It may not sound like the best thing but expired cosmetics and skin care products can be a risk to your health.

After a lot of research and actually taking the time to go tru all my products , Ive come up with a post on how long you should use your makeup for.

To start with most of our beauty products are either powder or water based. the powder based usually have a longer shelf life as there is no room for bacteria vs. the water based.

Brushes/ Beauty blenders should also be regularly cleaned to avoid bacteria growing on it and ofcourse for the sake of your SKIN !

So Ive listed a few products and their shelf life

Face Makeup (foundations and concealers): 2 years for oil based products and up to 3 years for water based (if unopened). If you used a product that often it would get over soon , so if your not using a product for the longest its time to get rid of it. I personally stick to one foundation only , I know its hard as a blogger but that’s me.

Blush/Bronzer/Powder: You have approximately 18 months from the time you first open and use it.

Mascara and Liquid Eyeliner: 3 to 4 months from the time you first open and use it. Up to 2 years if unopened.

Eye and Lip Pencils: Sharpen them before each use, as a way to keep them clean and they will last you anywhere between 12 to 18 months

Eyeshadow: With powder eyeshadows you have about 2 years of shelf life, whereas with cream eyeshadows, discard after 6 months from time of first use. But I like collecting those palettes and I cant really have the heart to part with it , I know its like the hardest thing to do.

Lipstick and Lipgloss: Unopened products are good for about 2 years. From time of first use you have about 18 months to use it all up. Who are we kidding?  Just 2 years , they do know we don’t have couple of lips , Ouch to this.
